Over the past year, I have struggled with whether or not to offer mini sessions as a boutique, film photography business.
As I have leaned more toward a lifestyle approach in my work, I came to the conclusion that I could incorporate both and make mini sessions fun for my client and myself.
In terms of a mini lifestyle session at Leanne Haskins Photography, a Vignette is a brief description of your family’s day-to-day life through heirloom quality lifestyle portraiture. A Vignette by definition is a brief, evocative description or account of something.
Memories are made in these brief, seemingly mundane moments of our every day life. Making breakfast with the family every Saturday, reading and playing on the floor with your toddler before you head to work, picking strawberries every summer at the beginning of the season.
These are the moments, the small events that will stay with, not only the parents, but the children as well. I believe that having quality photos of these brief, meaningful glimpses of a life shared together will spark the same sense of closeness and traditions in the generations to follow.
We all know that it is incredibly important to set aside time to spend real, quality time with our children. For working parents, this may be an even stronger feeling.
Every morning before Leif goes to work, he and Annie play on the floor, read books, and listen to music with their little guy. This fella has a kick-butt collection of vintage toys, dance moves like you’ve never seen, and a deep passion for the book Green Hat Blue Hat by Sandra Boynton. In this house, however, it’s referred to as the “Uh-Oh” book.
These not-so-quiet mornings before a work day are priceless. Only in retrospect do we see how this time shapes our children and the relationship between the parents and child. This cheeky little guy may not remember these moments but they will become important to him as he listens to the stories that go along with these images.
So, I love love love this family. They are clever, creative, and so much cooler than I will ever be! Annie and Leif worked in the music and fashion industry in New York City for years when they decided to pick up and head south to start a family.
Carolina Beach, located just south of Wilmington, provided the MUCH slower pace of sleepy little beach town that they were looking for. This family has a very laid back lifestyle. They don’t own a television so every morning is spent with their son reading, playing with his vintage or handmade toys, and riding bicycles around the island.
When we discussed the setting for their family photos, I asked them what their favorite thing to do as a family was and this was it, spending quality time together.
How sweet are they? This was a really fun and really intimate portrait session. I look forward to many more like this!
