Winter at Onslow Beach – Heather Whitten

I’m completely in love with this submission from Heather Whitten. I can practically feel the cold wind and smell the sea air, and wish I were there running alongside the kids.

from Heather:  I grew up going to Onslow Beach with my mother and sisters in North Carolina.  When my husband got orders to Arizona from the USAF in 2009, I made a promise to myself to get back to that shore every year.  Luckily, I’ve been able to keep that promise.

This year we made the trip home over the Christmas holiday.  The beach was the first place my 4 year old daughter, Lily wanted to go.  My foster son, “J”, had never been to the beach before so watching him experience the Atlantic for the very first time made the trip all the more special.  My mom and two sisters were there, freezing right along with us and couldn’t help but call all of the East Coast’s sea gulls over for a little snack.  We didn’t leave until all the food and the feeling in our fingers had run out.

These were all shot with a ‘new to me’ Canon 5D Classic and my 35L and processed with VSCO presets.
