From Jayme Ford:
I met up with the Barrett Family in the absolutely gorgeous little town of Waterton, AB back in Sept of 2015.
This place is straight out of a fairy tale and for a Rocky Mountain town, it is very quiet and peaceful. Unlike the larger towns farther North such as Banff and Jasper, Waterton is a sleepy little place with that famed Canadian local hospitality and great food!
Although I was expecting it to be a bit windy (as it usually is in Southern Alberta) I was not expecting the gale force winds we encountered during our session! Luckily, the family was up for anything and since they lived in the neighbouring town of Pincher Creek, they were used to it. I love the motion that wind gives in sessions so I was actually pretty excited that it was available.
Some of my favourite images are the ones of this sweet momma and her little girl; hair whipping in the wind. But it did present some challenges such as almost blowing me over while shooting and turning that quilt into somewhat of a whip. But we all managed to stay standing (our hair, on the other hand, quickly turned into a birds nest haha!).
The first location was by the historic Prince of Wales Hotel (the castle on the hill), which is basically the most well known landmark in Waterton. The area around the hotel is just too perfect, with its slopping hills and incredible views of the town and Waterton Lakes, you can’t go wrong here. It was off season when we had our session so the hotel was closed meaning we basically had the entire location to ourselves (yay for not having to edit our vehicles!).
We then ventured out of the wind tunnel and down to the beach to throw some rocks and snuggle away from the chill of the wind under a nice warm quilt. All in all, the session was incredible and I can not wait to shoot there again in a few short weeks!
