Light leaks – normally they are an accident and a sign of an equipment malfunction.
However, sometimes they produce “happy accidents” and can add fun and quirkiness to an image. Most often seen when shooting with toy cameras, they are caused by ”a hole or gap in the body of a camera where light is able to ‘leak’ into the normally light-tight chamber, exposing the film or sensor with extra light” (thanks Wikipedia).
A favorite session that comes to mind featuring images with light leaks is this one by Ozzy Garcia…..the images were shot on his Contax 645 with a back that sometimes produces them.
