Traditions – Heather Perera

I love the way that Heather sees the world. From her stunning family & lifestyle photos to her incredible fine art work, her images always make me feel something. I’m so excited to share these photos from her of a day spent making memories with her beautiful boy Lucca & some good friends!

From Heather: I’m a sucker for traditions.  I hold onto those from my childhood and cherish creating new ones with my family.  They make a family unique, act as a glue to bond a family together, and creates a safety.  I am passionate about documenting them, both for my own family and others.  When I document a family tradition or ritual, I get to truly see who that family is, how they interact, what is important to them and why their love is so strong.  They are magical and can be as simple as pancake Saturdays.

One of my favorite traditions is picking our own pumpkins.  Every October we stake out a new pumpkin patch, fill our thermos with cider and head out to frolic in the corn mazes.  We’ve done it for years, and for me it signifies fall.

Because of my love for documenting traditions or rituals, I created a “ritual project”.  I want to help families create something they’ll treasure for years, because it’s what makes them, them.

Happy Easter Monday! — Abbie McFarland – Texas Family Photography and GIVEAWAY WINNER

I hope you guys all had a very happy easter weekend.

With easter egg hunts, and candy, and not too much of screaming children.

I know we did.  I think I may get more excited for the kids to see their Easter baskets than they are.  I was certainly the first one up!

Our own Abbie did an amazing job on this Easter shoot of her three girls.  When she first said she had a studio shoot, I was hesitant.. I hear studio and immediately think of Sears.

But this is a studio and studio images I LOVE.

Do you guys have studios like this?  I think I want one!

From Abbie:

“This Easter, I wanted to shoot a fun, girly session of my three.  I have a small studio space in my house that I just completed, and wanted to test it out, and I also wanted to experiment with combining film and digital. So, we threw this together….it wasn’t quite as buttoned up as I had originally hoped – but I loved so many of these pictures I got of my daughters, and that’s what is most important.

Techie Stuff: Film was shot on a Contax 645 with Fuji 400h, from RPL. Digital was shot on a 5D Mark III and 50 1.2 / 35 1.4 lens.  It was a good thing that I shot these before using this room heavily – I repainted! Learning experience….even the palest of yellows creates color casts and looks yucky in shadows.”

In other news, our winner from last week’s giveaway for Indie Film Lab is Simply By Suzy (picked random thanks to random.org).

And be on the lookout for a super cute giveaway tomorrow!!!!

xoxo
