Fall is here and pumpkin everything abounds. Crisp air and the smell of firewood crackling in the fireplace overcomes the senses on evening walks. Sweaters and boots are being pulled out of closets and football is on the television. This session however, hearkens back to the golden days of summer. To great rays streaming in the windows. To bright light, happy yellow sunshine, new memories and the birth of a baby.
Photographer Laura Leibowitz, of Boston, Massachusetts photographed this gorgeous family as they welcomed their newborn baby girl home. You can see the new bonds of sisterhood pushing through the dirt like young, green shoots, reaching for the sun. A new relationship that will last a lifetime. If you look close, you can envision the whispered secrets that will be shared in the coming years. The matching pajamas, the bedtime stories told to clean curly heads as they snuggle up to mom and dad. Sisterhood is a special sweetness to behold.
Laura shares with us that this baby girl spent a good amount of time both awake and asleep during the session, which allowed for a great variety of images. There is a beautiful connection in the images where she is staring right into her mother’s eyes. During her awake time, she was calm and observant. Big sister was so excited and friendly – she loved showing Laura all of the various toys and books around the room. Big sister loves to read, and Laura was excited to catch the moment where she was reading on her back. The love that this family has for each other and the joy they have in welcoming their new addition is hard to miss!
Laura enjoys taking a lifestyle approach to her family photography. She loves catching natural moments and real emotions and finds that this approach allows her to capture those few silly or truly heartwarming images that might not have happened if she had been overly involved in directing the session. As the mother of a toddler herself, she encourages young children to play or read so that she can capture them in their element, doing what they love. She cherishes images of her own son that portray his interests and genuine excitement, and seeks to provide those same type of images to her clients. She also likes to stand back and let a family interact with each other while she captures their laughter and warmth. These everyday moments are ones that they’ll love to look back on and remember.
Laura’s gear of choice is a Nikon D800 and her favorite lens is the Nikon 85mm f1.4 for it’s incredible bokeh. She also uses a Nikon 35mm f1.8 lens and loves the wider angle that it adds to her sessions.
