I don’t know about you.. but as a film shooter I love collecting cameras. And then I want to use them on my shoots. But its hard juggling 3 or 4 different cameras at the same time I’m trying to pose people and change film and not look like a total airhead at the same time.
So when Amy Q sent in this great family session and talked about how many cameras she used, I thought it was perfect for a Technique Thursday talk on using multiple cameras and formats on a shoot.
“Ryan and Erica… to know them is to love them. Giving, forgiving, funny, talented, beautiful, supportive people. They run a successful photography business (www.pure7studios.com) in Destin, Florida. They’re the bee’s knees.
Erica wanted to do something fun and messy. She knows my fondness for anything involving a mess. Her idea for surprising the kids with paints and no paper was brilliant and the kids went nuts.”
Amy used 3 cameras on this fun paint filled family session. Can you guess which ones?

What a fun session! Yes it can be so tricky to juggle multiple cameras during a session- especially one with kids. I often have my D700 on a BlackRapid strap and my F4 in my bag and then around my neck when I’m using it. Not a perfect system but at least the cameras aren’t hitting against one another around my neck :)
I haven’t tried the Black Rapid strap but here a ton of good things about it.
the double strap is, as Jaclyn Michelle would say, boomsauce. f3 (or fm2) one side rollei on the other.
I’m mortified by my typo.. yes I know how to spell hear. My goodness! And I’m going to have to try the double strap.
wow, i love this series. the paint is amazing, as is the love.
I LOVE that idea for a session! How stinking fun!
I shoot 3 cameras during the ceremony of weddings. I use a money maker by Holdfast and it is legit!!! I have a Leica M4 on the top loops, Mamiya 645 AFD on my left and a Canon 1V on my right. As you can tell I HATE changing lenses.
I need a photo of this set up Reggie. Got one? Im interested. Im always setting mine down in sand or grass or coffee tables and forgetting where I left it. :)
these are so fun- love the paint & the pure happiness!!
I love Amy Q! She is so fun to work with. So talented. This session turned out great, beautiful family!
