Farewell NY – JellyBean Pictures

Lifestyle sessions are a breed in themselves. JellyBean Pictures did an amazing job with this farewell session.    Farewell NYC’ session with a family who was moving to the ‘burbs the very next day.

“I wanted to ‘live’ with them that morning in the session and capture them in their soon to be old home as well as in their neighborhood.  We started with some breakfast, a neighborhood walk and a jaunt over to their favorite park.

As a lifestyle photographer, I always capture people in their own natural settings, but the fact they were leaving the very next day was very poignant.”

JellyBean Pictures is located in New York.

As you can see just from this week’s posts, there are all sorts of amazing ways to capture family photography.  Tomorrow is something a little bit different again.  See you then.

xoxo

Great session! She got some great action shots with the swing and swinging the kids. I have trouble with catching kids moving that fast. Any tips about how to time the click?

Thanks Hayley! When I shoot moving children (which is 99% of the time ;)) I throw my shutter up. For something like the swing shot- I waited for it. I knew there was going to be a mid air ‘pause’ with the swing, so right as he got to that top of the ‘swing’ motion, I fired away. I was shooting t a 2.5 and 1/500 shutter speed. That really is my ‘go-to’ starting point for outdoor shoots with fast moving subjects. In the beginning my advice is to not shoot wide open until you master that focus. I shot the NYC street shot with the train station behind them with those same settings. But play around because every situation is different from a lighting stand point, so it’s all about trial and error.
