Introducing Ashley

It’s my pleasure to introduce Ashley Kelemen to the Let the Kids team. Ashley is a fantastic wedding photographer out of Southern California, a world traveler, a fiery ginger, and a wonderful friend.  She will be heading up our social media in the future….be on the lookout for more Let the Kids fun! Today we are sharing an adorable engagement session she shot.

From Ashley:

Hey all! I’m so excited to be a part of this rad team, and can’t wait to share some of the awesome things we’ll be doing with our social media! Make sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and our brand new Instagram to keep up with everything we’ve got going on. To kick things off, we’re running an Instagram contest for the coming week! Our theme is Sleep, in honor of these dark winter months when that is all you want to do, so snap a pic (smart phone only!) of your favorite Sleep moment and post it to Instagram with the hash tag #letthekids. We will pick a winner next Monday, and the winning image will be featured on our Facebook page.

We are so excited to have Ashley join us!

Staten Island Ferry + Lua Handbag Giveaway!

When I started shooting film, I spent countless hours looking at different film photographer’s work, and D’Arcy Benincosa was one of my favorites. Her work is distinguishable because it brings an element of “cool” and sophistication…..it reflects D’Arcy’s travels and and who she is (I feel privileged to have gotten to know her).

I loved these images for those very reasons.

D’Arcy says:

One of my favorite parts of being in a big city is people watching. Last time I was in NYC, I walked up and down the Staten Island Ferry and snapped some images from that moment. My friend, Joan, was there with me, and occasionally I’d place her here or there–stationary and statue like–in a sea of movement. It was just a simple 30 minute ride, but somehow, when I see people through my camera, I see them in a way I wouldn’t if I were just looking with my bare eyes.

Thanks D’Arcy!

Last but not least we are pleased to announce a giveaway this week from Lua Handbags!

Chasing the Sunset – Marina Koslow

Everything about this senior session from Marina Koslow is gorgeous…..the subject, the scenery, and of course the light…

This session was shot on Portra 400 and Ilford 3200, Contax 645, developed by Indie Film Lab.

From Marina:

You know when you try really hard to time the shoot just right, in my case that would be catching the setting sun over a ridge that I knew usually happened earlier than predicted sunset off of the weather channel? Well, I was driving down the highway at a speed I won’t mention after I realized I took a bit too long at our previous location only to get here just a few minutes too late. Disappointed? Only until I realized how pretty the soft light was on this gorgeous girl and it literally let me photograph from any angle. Just to think that if I got there earlier I would have missed half of these shots! Another lesson on making the best of a situation I did not plan for.

Also, since some of us (ahem, me included), might be shopping for new gear for the holidays, don’t forget to take a look at B&H Photo! Click the link below to go browse their awesome selection….
