Dressing tiny, stiff limbs, a big sister’s excitement and the primary hues of all things baby punctuate the rich, colorful imagery and emotive moments that define the work of Cleveland, Ohio photographer Antonieta Esis. Antonieta takes a moment to share a recent newborn session with us from a rainy Ohio morning spent with a newly minted family of four:
“It was a rainy morning, but from the moment I walked into their home, I felt the family love; they were so happy to have their new baby with them. The big sister was so sweet when her mother was nursing the baby and always, always smiling.”
Photographing families at home is Antonieta’s passion where she enjoys documenting life as it happens – free from posing, beautifully imperfect, and full of natural light. Her goal is to capture images that become memory time capsules. Images that the people she photographs can look back on in years to come and relive those particular moments in time. Moments like those spent helping your oldest child carefully hold their new sibling, the devoted loyalty of the family dog, and the routine of washing a pile of bottles, sippy cups and pacifiers in the kitchen, their bright colors illuminated by the morning light.
Antonieta shares with us that in her camera bag you will always find her camera (of course), one or maybe two lenses and a pair of socks. Yes! Socks. The first thing she does when she arrives at a session at home is to leave her shoes at the door and put her socks on. “It’s funny, a pair of socks is part of my gear“, she tells us. Her other favorite gear is her Canon 5D MarkIII, paired with her lenses of choice, the Canon 35mm f1.4 and the Sigma 24mm Art series. These lenses give her the freedom to capture what she really wants for her own everyday imagery of her family and they are equally perfect for client work.
Antonieta tells us that she loved this session and two of her favorite images are when the baby is asleep in his mother’s arms after nursing, looking so incredibly peaceful, and the other favorite is when big sister is next to the crib with her baby brother lying there, and she looks so proud to be there taking care of him.
Vivid color and a beautiful cadence are hallmarks of Antonieta’s rich storytelling imagery, and she certainly delivers just that in this remarkable session.
