Motherhood is in the details. It’s found in big bear hugs and a baby’s first curls. It’s in the crumbs on the counter and the cheerios on the floor. It’s in baby tickles and giggles, bath time and bed time stories. It’s in loveys and snack traps, onesie snaps and pacifiers. Motherhood is a great cosmic mixture of emotions. It is love and frustration, joy and selfless giving. It is sacrifice, forgiveness and a warm shoulder to lay your head upon.
You can see these things taking root in Ashley Parsons ongoing project, “Mornings with You”, where she documents the sweet everyday moments that pass between a mother and her children. On a crisp Colorado morning, Ashley joined Amy and her son Asher at their home in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. The sun is almost always shining in Colorado and this day was no exception. It was summer’s end, and it was one of those truly refreshing mornings filled with crisp, clean air that calls for open windows. One season draws to a close and another begins and so are the rhythms of nature, life and motherhood.
It took Ashley about sixty seconds to realize that the bright and airy home was a true reflection of it’s occupants, and the glowingly pregnant Amy filled the room with the light of unconditional love and boundless energy to laugh, play, cuddle and read all day long. Ashley tells us about some of her favorite photographs from their time together:
“…they are the fleeting moments when Amy would reach out to touch Ashers soft, silky hair. You could see her embracing the ways he is becoming a wild and free little boy, but this gesture reminded me of the small ways we grasp onto the moments when our babies are still babies. my oldest son turns twelve next month, and I swear it feels like it was only a few months ago that I reached out to touch silky baby hair.”
By the time she left, Ashley’s cheeks hurt from smiling, the laugh lines around her eyes were a tiny bit more pronounced, and she found she had become Asher’s latest crush and Amy’s biggest fan. It was a wonderful morning of quietly celebrating together. Of embracing the everyday, loving life as it is in this moment, and seeing the good right in front of you.
